Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation Again Pays $1 Million in Dividends to Member Counties
Once again this year, the 55 member counties of the Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation (County Mutual) have received a dividend payment from their insurer totaling $1 million.
“This company has continued to thrive because of the close relationship between member counties and the County Mutual,” said Jon H. Hochkammer, Director of Insurance Operations for the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA), the corporate manager of the County Mutual. “The strong partnership has allowed us to once again return these taxpayer dollars to member counties and we look forward to continuing our work with them to benefit all of Wisconsin.”
The County Mutual provides comprehensive liability insurance to three-quarters of the 72 counties in the state. The company carries an A.M. Best Rating of A-. In addition to the 55 counties, three county programs also received dividend checks.
“The proactive claims management of the County Mutual has allowed us to issue these dividends,” said Robert Wurtz, President of Aegis Corporation, which administers the program. “We are proud of the close working relationship with our member counties and the effective risk management efforts of individual counties.”
In addition to providing comprehensive liability insurance, the County Mutual offers a wide array of services to member counties. Some of these services include loss control incentive programs, a highway rodeo, safety newsletters and educational seminars on a wide variety of topics, such as defensive driving, worker’s compensation, and violence in the workplace.
“In the municipal insurance marketplace, there is no one like the County Mutual. We are tirelessly dedicated to loss control and effective risk management, which allows us to have a positive underwriting position and issue these dividends,” said John Dirkse, Executive Vice President of Aegis Corporation. “Each year, our loss control staff travels the state making hundreds of on-site visits to educate our counties on critical safety issues. Because of our ongoing commitment to safety, we have been able make substantial market impacts and ultimately save taxpayer dollars.”
The Wisconsin Counties Association, along with county officials from around the state, created the Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation in 1987 to provide quality liability insurance substantially at cost to its members. For more information, visit www.wisconsincountymutual.org.
